This is a Picture Story that took place in 2008 at my home. The Characters include, Murphy, female, a tortoise shell cat. Sam, male, a gray tabby and Tucker, male, poodle. Enter, The Chair...
Once upon a time, there was a chair. It was a perfectly ordinary chair, but very comfortable. In fact, it is daughter Wendy's favorite seat in the house.
But along came a cat named Murphy. Now this cat had been sleeping on the back of the sofa on her 'throw' for two years. But noooo....now she wants..THE CHAIR. Mother in her infinite wisdom moved the 'throw' to protect the chair. And all was right in the heavens.
(There was the year where the cat decided she wanted to sleep on top of the magazines in the holder and asked Mother to move her throw, but that's another tale.)
Then one day, Little Brother Sam came in from the cold and decided that Big Sister's 'throw' looked like the best seat in the house.
Big Sister came inside too, and went to get in her bed. But lo...it was taken already. So Big Sister looked around the room to see if Mother and Father were aware of this situation and they said "Yes, you seem to have a problem." Big Sister decided to go away and get on her other favorite spot, the Table in the Sun Room. Now this was not an acceptable alternative, because there was no sun, it was night time.
After several days of the same behavior by Little Brother, Big Sister decided that she had to do something. So she went to Mother and said, "What should I do?" Mother replied, "Well, Murphy, it seems to me that you need to talk to Sam and ask him to leave." Then Big Sister said, "But what if he doesn't, can I hit him?" And Mother said, "Well, Murphy, you know how I feel about fighting in the house, why don't you just try talking to him."
Now...I don't have pictures of the conversation, but it was pretty animated. I do, however, have a picture of Little Dog Brother's reaction to the situation. Here, he is asking Mother if there is going to be bloodshed, and Mother is telling him that she doesn't think so. Because it appears that Little Brother Sam seems to have decided that Retreat is the wisest decision.
And so, dear readers, Big Sister is once again in Possession of THE CHAIR, and once again, all is right in the heavens. Little Brother has decided that he really wanted to sleep on the floor at the foot of THE CHAIR all along.
I wish I had pictures of the conversation, but it went pretty quickly. First Big Sister stepped up on her stool and smacked at Little Brother and hissed. Little Brother pretended he didn't see her. So Big Sister climbed up on THE CHAIR and proceeded to pretty much sit on his head. Little Brother just move a tad and kept pretending to be asleep. So Big Sister turned around and around in The Chair a number of times and each time she did, she would smack Little Brother.
Finally, Big Sister stepped down to the Floor and said, "I"m warning you...and I'm only going to say this once. That is MY Chair, and you better get off, and I mean right now." Little Brother looked at Mother and said, "Do I have to, can you make her share?" Mother told Little Brother, "It was hers first and she has dibs, but you have your nice stool, why don't you go get on that."
"Little brother sighed and said, "Oh all right. But I want you to know she didn't really scare me."
And so, dear Reader, Little Brother has returned to his regular spot on THE STOOL, and all is right in the heavens.
