Chapter One: Moment of Truth
Oh, my God, it's true! He was unfaithful to me. He was with his wh0re just hours before our vow renewal ceremony. I saw the scratch marks on his back. That proves it! How could he do this to me?
A million thoughts ran through Pilar's mind.
He doesn't love me, he never has. I meant absolutely nothing to him. He was just staying with me out of obligation and duty, so that means our reconciaiation was just a sham! Well, I'm through with these d@mn mind games and I'm through with Martin!
Pilar sobbed endlessly as she lay on the queen-sized bed in her room at the Crane mansion. Now she was so upset and wasn't thinking straight. She got up and walked towards a small table on the other side of the room and poured herself a drink.
I need to unwind a little. Oh, I'm such a fool, a , fool! I hate her and I hate him even more. He lied to my face! That's what pi$$es me off the most.
Pilar chugged down the Vodka as if it were going out of style.
God, I'm such an idiot! What the h*ll am I going to do now? I'm not going forward with the ceremony, that's for sure. Martin blew that for us when he made love to Kath-scum in our bed. I just wish I'd caught them in the act. And you know what I would've done? I would've burnt the thing with the two of them in it, then grind the ashes into the ground with my heel. They are so lucky I wasn't there to bust them.
Pilar's intense thoughts were interrupted by a light knock on the door.
"Go away!" She screamed loudly. "I am not in the mood to hear what you have to say."
"Pilar, it's me. May I please come in?" Asked a familiar voice from the hallway.
She opens the door.
"Sam, what are you doing here?" Pilar asked surprised to see her best friend.
"I came to see how you were doing. Is there anything I can do for you?" He asked wiping a sliding tear from her face.
"What's done is done," she said sniffling. "Martin made his choice, and it wasn't to stay with me -- his wife!!"
Pilar then sat down at the foot of the bed.
"He's an adulterous pig!" She yelled in anger. "I hate him and Katherine now more than I ever have," Pilar announced.
"Well, considering everything that's happened since they came back to Harmony, that's understandable. Pilar, I know he hurt you, but..."
Sam notices the half-empty glass of Vodka.
"Have you been ?" He asked.
"Yes, I have," she admitted. "And I'm not ahamed of it either."
"Do you think this will help ease the pain you're feeling?" Sam asked Pilar.
Pilar walked over to the table.
"It's a h*ll of a start," she replied taking another drink. "Would you like some?" Pilar asked politely.
"No, thank you," answered Sam. "Pilar...I'm worried about you."
"Worried? About me?" She asked.
"You are my best friend. I just want you to know that you can talk to me about anything," Sam replied gently touching her cheek.
"Sam, you might think this is rediculous, but...will you just stay here and hold me?" Pilar asked him.
"Of course. For as long as you need me to," he said taking her in his muscular arms.
Meanwhile, Martin is in the east wing of the mansion trying to figure out why he let Pilar go.
How the h*ll could I do this? I had something good right in front of me all along and I let her slip through my fingertips.
Martin paced the floor as the bedroom door opened.
"Pilar.." he started, but then stopped when he saw who was standing in the doorway from the reflection in the mirror.
"Martin, talk to me," pleaded Katherine. "I love you, we belong together," she said.
"I should be with my wife!!" He yelled. "We should be getting remarried, and thanks to you, my dear, we're not," he replied.
"How can you blame me for this?" Asked Katherine. "We can't help the way we feel about each other."
Martin stared at her for a minute.
"I lost her, Katherine!" Martin replied. "I let her down again. That just shows how much of a b@stard I really am," Martin said. "I am going to go talk to her and try to fix this."
Martin headed for the door, but Katherine blocked it.
"Get out of my way!" He ordered.
Martin moved Katherine aside so he could get out into the hallway.
"Martin, no!" She hollered.
He runs off in search of his wife.
"D@mn t!" Katherine swore.
In Pilar's bedroom, she has fallen asleep. The door creeks open. Martin is shocked at what he sees.
"What's going on in here?" He asked angrily.
Sam gets out of bed, hoping that he doesn't wake Pilar.
"Nothing that you should be worried about," Sam assured.
"I want to talk to Pilar," Martin said.
"Well, I'm sorry, but as you can see, she's fast asleep," Sam replied. "You'll have to come back in the morning."
Sam pushed Martin out and closed the door behind him. The next morning...
"Hey, you..." Sam said. "Sleep good?" He asked her.
"I've had better nights," Pilar replied. "I can't believe you're still here," she said.
"You thought I'd leave you all alone after the day you had?" he asked her.
"I never dreamed that you'd spend the night. Wait a minute...we didn't have sex -- did we?" Pilar asked afraid to hear Sam's answer.
"Pilar, you're very vulnerable right now. I would never take advantage of you," Sam said.
"I know that. Ay, dios mio! I have one huge headache," she said applying a cold rag to her forehead.
"Do you want some breakfast?" He asked her.
"That sounds wonderful."
Pilar opens the door for them to leave the room.
"Pilar, wait! I have to tell you something," Sam said.
Pilar shuts the door and turns to face Sam.
"Oh, God! We did sleep together, didn't we?" she asked.
"No, no, it's nothing like that at all," Sam replied. "But I just thought you should know that Martin came by your room last night after you went to sleep."
Pilar shrugged her shoulders.
"I don't care! I want nothing to do with that sad excuse of a man."
"I think he is sincerely sorry for what he did to you," Sam said.
"I can't deal with him anymore. I've had it up to here with both of them," Pilar said as she walked towards the door once again. "Let's go get something to eat, I'm starving."
They go down to the kitchen. Martin is there eating a bowl of Cap'n Crunch.
"Um...I'll tell you what: I will go on home and let the two of you sort some things out. Pilar, call me..." Sam said and then left the mansion.
Pilar makes herself a bowl of Frosted Flakes and sits at the kitchen table across from her husband.
"Pilar, please don't shut me out of your life. I love you so much and I really am sorry for all the hell I've put you through lately," he said placing his hand on top of hers. "Can't we work this out?" he asked hoping he'd get a positive answer.
"I can't do it anymore, Martin," she announced. "I can't lie in bed every night and wonder if you're thinking about that hussy. I want to be the one in your heart, not just in your bed."
"I want you, Pilar. You are in my heart. Take me back, please," he begged.
"I will give you one last chance, but if I catch you anywhere near that woman, that's it...I'll chop off what you can't seem to control."
"Ok, ok," he said. "I get the picture."
"I'm not ready to renew my vows with you, because I don't think it would be right," she said.
"Fine," he agreed.
Months later...Katherine and Martin still commit adultery and think that Pilar doen't have a clue, but boy, are they wrong.
